Today our first team travelled to Clywedog Park to take on high flying Brickfield in the league. After last week’s good win over the champions FC Nomads the confidence in the squad was high. With Sam Roberts limping out the warm up with hamstring issues it meant that there was only one change to the starting XI which saw player manager Sean Jones come in.

Credit where its due the hosts started with a high tempo and had the team on the back foot from the very first whistle. Their constant pressure was soon rewarded when brickie were awarded a certain penalty decision which was despatched to Nathan's right. Brickfield continued to press and it wasn’t long until they scored a well-deserved second, a well worked move was completed with the striker rounding the keeper and taping the ball into an empty net. The Albion were up against it and the home side were on the hunt for more goals. As half time approached a third goal was scored for the hosts cementing a disappointing first half performance from the team. 3-0 HT

With nothing to lose in the second half the lads come out and to be fair give it a good go. It was a much more even encounter but as albion committed players forward in search of a way back into the game there were gaps appearing and the home side were exploiting them dangerously on the break. Cefn had a very good penalty decision turned away by the referee and also hit the bar, but we couldn’t get that come back goal. Our hosts went on to add two further goals to make the final score 5-0.

A tough game for the lads today but it was good see a bit more fight in an encouraging second half performance. It's easy to see why Brickfield are in the title race and there is no doubt that they will be there come the end of the season.

We will regroup this week, train hard on Wednesday and prepare for Chirk AAA next Saturday. Thanks to all our supporters who made the game today. As always you lot were out in force.
