The Albion were looking to make it two league wins on the bounce today with the visitors to the Rock being Saltney Town, another side who have strengthened considerably over the summer. Heading into the game the lads were aware that a win would mean we would leap our opponents in what’s turning out to be a tight WNL league with many teams more than capable of taking points of each other.

It was Saltney, wearing their unique pink and black strip who won the toss and they opted to take advantage of a strong wind and glaring sunshine for the first half. It was the visitors who started much the better asking questions of the Albion defence right from the off. Town were well organised and were preventing the Albion from playing at the back at every opportunity. After just six minutes the visitors almost took the lead but were denied by the cross bar. The lads were in a tough battle and pressure was being applied and more questions were being asked as the half wore on. The wind and sun were playing a part. Despite their dominance they didn’t trouble Josh Roberts in the Cefn goal to often which is a credit to the defence. They were well organised and were standing up tall against a decent away side and also the wind and sunshine. All three of our defenders collected a yellow card which epitomises the type of battle they had on their hands. 0-0 HT.

Second half the sunshine had died down somewhat but it was the Albion’s turn to take advantage of the wind. Cefn started brightly taking the game right to the men in pink and within two minutes of the restart a neat move was finished off by Jimmy Jones on the back post to make it 1-0. It was Albion’s turn to enjoy some possession and ask some questions of their own, we were on top. Despite regaining control of the game Saltney always posed a real threat coming forward but once again our lads were resilient throughout especially at the back. Just after the hour mark Oliver Davies gambled on a weak back pass and was able to get there before the on rushing goal keeper taking it round him and firing the Cefners 2-0 to the good. Saltney pushed for a way back into the game but the lads were more than equal to all the questions that they asked. On 85 minutes Jimmy Jones made sure that there would be no tense finale when he collected his second of the game to put Cefn 3-0 to the good all but seal three important points.

An excellent disciplined performance from the team against a team who will cause many teams in this division problems. You could see how much the lads wanted to collect three points, bodies were on the line and they fought hard for each other, especially in the first half. A big thank you to all the supporters who turned up to support the team and also our match ball sponsor Wayne Hughes from Wash and Glow.
A big three points and dare I say it just about deserved!

A great day for Cefn Albion we started out wanting two wins and both teams delivered!
