Rhosymedre Church to Benefit From Druids V Albion Preseason Friendly

Cefn Druids v Cefn Albion

The Rock| KO:19:45| 01/08/18

As most people will know, Cefn Druids and Cefn Albion Football clubs recently formed a closer relationship in a bid to grow stronger links between two local village clubs. In addition to the exciting footballing opportunities that this has provided the Albion, the decision has been well received within the community of Cefn Mawr and as a result we have already witnessed the village unite even more than what it already is.

Over the years the friendly fixture has raised a good amount of money for local causes such as Cefn Mawr Play Group and more recently Plas Bod Llwyd, a local residential home located at the bottom of Cefn Mawr. We are delighted to announce that amongst all their busy preparations for their recent European adventure and despite the playing level differences between the two clubs, Druids have managed to include us in their preseason schedule which is fantastic news all round.

This year we have decided on Wednesday 1st August for the two Cefn clubs to meet at the Rock, kicking off at 19:45. Cefn Albion chairman Haydn Evans and Cefn Druids chairman John Hughes have agreed that ALL proceeds from the fixture will be donated to St John’s Parish Church, Rhosymedre to contribute towards the maintenance and general upkeep of the grounds. The Church is located just a stone throw from the Rock.

Last year, a community group led by Kath Johnson organised a clean-up of the Church yard as the grass was so high loved ones could not visit to pay respects to their resting family members. Graves were over grown by thick grass and the pathways were uneven posing a problem even for the able body to get to the gravesides. With the church now at its maximum capacity it does not generate the necessary funding for the cost’s of maintaining the grounds. Whether it’s through weddings, christenings or having someone who is laid to rest there, many families from within the community have some form of association with this church which is why we want to help the hundreds of others who have freely given up their own time to maintain the grounds.

To raise as much money as we can for a fantastic cause we have decided to charge a fee to come and spectate. Prices are:

Adults - £3.00
Concessions - £2.00
Children - £1.00

We really want to encourage the people of Cefn Mawr and beyond to come and get involved with what the two clubs are trying to do. Our chairman Haydn Evans wanted to let everyone know that ALL Cefn Albion players, management and committee will also be asked to contribute to participate with all proceeds being added to the gate money and whatever else is collected on the night. We appreciate that this preseason fixture will be good preparations for the new season, but we really want Rhosymedre Church Yard to be the main beneficiary and that can only happen with more spectators coming along and getting involved.

If you are unable to make the game and you would like to donate towards the event, then please get in touch with either football club and we can arrange for everything to be sorted. There is also a Go Fund me page (https://www.gofundme.com/rhosymedre-churchyard-maintenance) where you can make a donation.
