Recent Background & Current Status
Despite finishing the 2017/18 season as the Welsh Premier League (wales’ top footballing tier) as runners up totalling 60 points (https://www.wpl.cymru/league-table/p/2017/2018), Welsh footballing giants Bangor City found themselves being demoted to the Cymru Alliance and ineligible to compete in Europe due to the denial of the UEFA and tier one license. Bangor were one of three clubs to have been members of the Welsh Premier League since its inception in 1992.

Despite the licensing disappoint, after a summer of turmoil Bangor City began the process of building a team to get them back to the Welsh Premier League as soon as possible. The intent was clear following the announcement that former New Saints and Hartlepool United boss Craig Harrison was their new manager. Harrison, a high-profile figure within the domestic game whom led the New Saints to a title in 2017 where they broke Ajax's 44-year-old world record for the longest winning streak in top-flight football.

Bangor City wasted no time in making their presence felt in the second tier and began life with three excellent wins beating Buckley Town 5-1, Ruthin Town 1-2 and Guilsfield 1-3. However, they followed this impressive start with a 4 match winless streak going down 1-2 to Porthmadog, 3-2 to Denbigh Town, 3-2 to league leaders Airbus Broughton and a 1-1 draw with Holyhead Hotspur.

After a rocky period, Harrison’s men went on to win the next three fixtures in the league and league cup beating Gresford 5-3 (cup), Gresford 0-3 (League) and Conwy Borough 1-0. Despite this improved form, on the eve of their Welsh Cup Round one tie against fellow WNLPD outfit Mold Alex the club announced the ‘surprising’ news that Craig Harrison had left to join WPL outfit Connahs Quay Nomads, citing that he wanted to peruse a full-time role within the game.

In the aftermath of Harrison's departure, citizens director of Football Stephen Vaughan Jnr was put in temporary charge of the first team and has since led the football club into the second round of the Welsh Cup defeating Mold Alex 4-2 and two wins in the league beating Penrhyncoch 0-2 and the impressive 9-0 home win against Llanrhaeadr YM just last week.

After 11 league matches in the Cymru Alliance, Bangor City’s currently lie in fourth position on 22 points, 14 behind league leaders Airbus Broughton. Nevertheless, the football club is in good form and in their last four league outings have scored 15 and conceded 0 goals.
